Landa grew up on a working farm near Hensall, Ontario, graduated from University, worked and lived in Toronto where she met her husband. She returned to rural life with her husband to raise their three children near Mt. Carmel, Ontario.
Having been self-employed for over 20 years, she decided to look into owning a business which would benefit seniors in rural communities, and Retire-At-Home offered such an opportunity.
Why seniors? She saw first-hand the challenges within her own family and circle of friends. The struggles with aging spouses, parents and in-laws, and the stress on their caregivers was something she believed needed immediate attention.
In speaking with many of the seniors in her community, Landa said that they felt they would ‘burden’ their adult children if they stayed in their homes. They believed that they had no choice but to sell their family home or farm, ‘before it was too late.’ Most seniors do not want to move from the community they’ve always known, and Landa strongly believes she can deliver the in-home services to help them remain in the home they love.
There is definitely a need for more choices and support for seniors in our rural communities as well as more information for their family caregivers. She looked for a partnership in business that had strong family values, believed in their vision of improving a senior’s quality of life, and had credentials to back up their knowledge in the area of senior care.
Landa brings with her a passion for developing a trusting, friendly environment for seniors while giving them the choice to stay home.
